| News Calvin Merry wins Lightning Open  A glorious spring day met 16 competitors at the Hillingdon Outdoor Acvtivities Centre (HOAC) in Harefield, with blue skies and 8 knot NNE winds. The best direction for the lake. The first race had Mal Hartland with a shotgun start to reach the windward mark first, followed by Jim Carnague, David Tiney and Calvin Merry. Mal retained the lead for the race with Calvin Merry making the most of the conditions to take 2nd place. The second race saw Eric Jannering with a excellent start making windward mark first, the wind then died for a shortwhile and the fleet tried to chase him down, however he made the reach at the bottom of the downwind section first, Mal Hartland fought his way through the fleet to take second from Eric in first. The third race became a decider with Calvin Merry looking for a win to clinch the open. David Tiney made the windward mark first and held this position for a couple of laps but was overhauled by a rampant Calvin who won the race and secured the title for the second year running. 1st - Calvin Merry - Queensmead SC 2nd - Mal Hartland - Bolton SC 3rd - Eric Jannering - Queensmead SC Lightning Class Association |
